There’s one week left in Preptober and I’m so far ahead of schedule I’m not even sure what I’ll be trying to accomplish this coming week…

A Rundown Of My

When I started this whole Preptober business at the beginning of the month, I had a not-so-gravy mindset towards it.

As someone who tends to lean into perfectionism, I was afraid that having so much time to think about my novel concept would lead me to overthinking about it and feeling trapped in a sea of potential.

But quite the opposite thing occurred (as any rube may have surmised).

Instead of drowning in wave upon wave of inspirational creativity, I – piece by piece – worked by way through all of the plot holes, story arcs, character motivations, and potential twists that I could dream up and came out the other side with a fleshed out concept that I’m happy to admit I can’t wait to sit down and write.

You can read more about my NaNoWriMo Preptober process over here.

  • Character Profiles

I’ve said it before and I’ll scream it until the day I die: character profile sheets are my favorite. It was such a blast to interview my characters with no expectations and see what incredible goodness sprang forth.

  • Scene Outlines

This was something I’d never done before and I’m so glad that I did them this time around! I now have more than 50 scenes prepped for NaNoWriMo. Many of them will not be used in November, but I’m waiting until then to decide which ones will be cut.

  • Plot Points

I do, however, have my main plot points chosen! Now I just have to decide which scenes will make up the in-between bits.

  • Premise Paragraph

This took the longest time to create. I’m still not quite sure who I want my primary character to be. (Can you have three primary characters?) But I’m going with my instincts here and have chosen who I think will do best as the primary protagonist.

So What’s Left For The
Last Week of Preptober?

In the final week leading up to NaNoWriMo, I’ll be reviewing everything I’ve created thus far and narrowing down, cutting out, or otherwise revising anything that doesn’t make my eyes sparkle with glee.

Those 50 scenes I outlined? I’ll likely chop in half.

Those three protagonists I haven’t quite narrowed down for first, second, and third? They’ll likely get judged and labeled by the end of the week.

But for now, I’m gonna sit back, enjoy my weekend, and bask in what has been a HUGE redemption Preptober for me given that I’ve never before humored doing it.

Cheers to the upcoming NaNoWriMo season, my fellow writers! Lets make some magic happen 😀
