Novel 1, Day 45: When All That Work In Preptober Pays Off Big Time, We Squeal!

I’ve reached the halfway mark of NaNoWriMo…my novel hasn’t, but that’s just a manner of perspective! I’ve got 17 days left and I’m moving forward full-steam ahead now that my birthday festivities are well behind me.

TODAY’S NANO LOWDOWN:

Today was my first day back to writing after a week spent celebrating my 32nd birthday.

I wasn’t sure how this would go.

The guilt I felt from taking so much time off from my novel was a bit troublesome, and my fear that I’d be unable to meet my NaNoWriMo word count was fierce.

So I made myself a tall glass of lemon water, downed a few frosted holiday cookies (because yes, holiday cookies are my fuel through this novel), and got to work.

By noon, I had six thousand words and felt pretty schnazzy. By three, I had twelve thousand.

I don’t know, you guys! The words just poured out of me today. I referred to my notes from October to keep my scene flow on track and it all just sort of…shot right out of me!

FINAL WORD COUNT

0

That’s right, mateys.

Thirteen-thousand, two-hundred five words for the day.

And it’s only four pm!

Let the records show: Preptober is our friend.

HURDLE OF THE DAY

DECIDING WHAT

Everything I organized in Preptober, all the characters backstories, the story arcs, plot twists, motives, EVERYTHING is coming into question at this point in the game.

I organized my novel loosely in October so that I could have some mystery and character-developed freedom in November.

But now that I’m in November, I’m still not certain where I want things to land.

Should this character be younger?

Should that one have a lover?

Should this character’s perspective even be shared?

I’m sure instincts will kick in and I’ll pull the trigger on my choices in the next day or so, but I was hoping that aspect of this novel would be easier for me when I got to this point.

TODAY’S WINS & LOSSES

WINS:

LOSSES:

Today was wildly successful. I hit a groove that I couldn’t shake and it felt amazing!

Tomorrow, I’ll play around with plot twist opportunities and decide, once and for all, where this novel is going.

SENTENCE OF THE DAY

“Rats swim, roaches sink.”
- Snowebelle Sinterklaas

TOMORROW’S NANO AGENDA

Tomorrow is go time.

I’ll be deciding how I want to take two major character twists in my novel and, depending on those choices, my novel will be either transformed into something amazing, or…you know…still pretty sweet regardless.

What can I say?!

It’s a really fun story concept that’s kind of hard to ruin.
